The Missing Link Google+ notification emails were nothing short of a formal announcement that somebody in your circle mentioned you on a post, commented on your post, or shared something to you. Once you receive them in your inbox, all you were able to do was read the update – nothing more, nothing less. And if you ever wanted to interact with the post, you've got to log in to your Google+ account. It's bland and pretty useless. Many businesses are using social media in order to help promote their businesses, products, and to connect with their customers.  The following list defines just some of the ways that social media is being utilized. 

 

  • Zappos, a company that sells shoes, has used Twitter in order to connect with their customers.  Using the Twitter account, employees chat with customers about products.  This is a great example of a company using social media to connect with their customers while increasing sales and developing customer loyalty.

 

  • Dell uses various social media platforms to connect with their customers.  Dell claims that by using Twitter, it has increased its sales dramatically.  Dell also sponsors an island in Second Life, a virtual community.

Twitter is the micro-blogging website that has taken the world by storm by allowing users to post “tweets” (or more simply, whatever is on their mind and is worth letting the world know) whose only restriction is the 140 character limit.

TweetDeck is ruling the browser world

TweetDeck on the other hand works exactly in the way it sounds; it is a deck or a browser which allows users to access multiple social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn. There are separate columns on the page containing each network which can be accessed by the user from a desktop. TweetDeck has also come up with Android and Apple friendly versions of itself other than having Linux and Windows operating system friendly versions as well.
