Too Much Optimization? Google is Cooking a Penalty For That!

Last March 10, 2012, Matt Cutts announced that Google is working on implementing a penalty against overly optimized websites. The announcement was made at the South By Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas during the event's panel discussion entitled “Dear Google & Bing: Help Me Rank Better!”

Cutts, who is the anti-spam chief of Google, pointed out that the new penalty will be added to Google's search results algorithm in a few weeks or months. The main goal is to “level the playing field” and give sites that produce better content the opportunity to catapult to higher rankings and drive organic search traffic and conversions than those sites that do not have great content, but have fared well in search engine optimization.
